If you ever want to get absolutely showered with candy, treats and birthday wishes, teach English abroad. I’m the only native speaker and foreigner at the school (and possibly all of Tabio), so I’m kind of a big deal to begin with, and I think all 180 students said Happy Birthday Teacher!!! at least once throughout the day. I don’t even know how they found out. My wonderful, thoughtful 11th graders bought me a cake. My 10th graders also bought me a cake, probably because they saw that it takes 30-40 minutes of class time. Well played, 10th grade, well played.
Tonight I have to plan tomorrow’s classes, but you can bet there will be celebrations in Bogota this weekend.
