November, I didn’t recognize you in this weather.

This was my fourth Thanksgiving abroad. It was also the first one that I didn’t celebrate – and, yes, eating burgers with Jess and Avi in Quito in 2009 counts as celebrating. Despite the fact that I’ve worked through U.S. and Colombian holidays alike on a regular basis this year, I refused to do the same on Thanksgiving. It’s THANKSGIVING after all. It’s one of the very few 100% American things that I fully  appreciate.

My options were 1) Prepare T-day dinner for my Colombian friends with a tiny kitchen and no oven, 2) “Work” but really sit and mope on social media all day, 3) Escape.
